Mekong Delta Region With Cu Chi Tunnels Tours Team

The Mekong Delta is known for Vietnamese under the name "Đồng Bằng Sông Cửu Long" or Nine Dragon River Delta as it runs through many provinces and cities: Long An, Đồng Tháp, Tiền Giang, An Giang, Bến Tre, Vĩnh Long, Trà Vinh, Hậu Giang, Kiên Giang, Sóc Trăng, Bạc Liêu, and Cà Mau, along with the province-level municipality of Cần Thơ with a large portion of Southwestern Vietnam of over 40,500 square kilometres (15,600 sq mi)

The Mekong Delta has been dubbed as a "biological treasure trove". Over 1,000 animal species were recorded between 1997 and 2007 and new species of plants, fish, lizards, and mammals have been discovered in previously unexplored areas, including the Laotian rock rat, thought to be extinct.

The Mekong Delta, as a region, lies immediately to the west of Ho Chi Minh City (also called Saigon by locals), roughly forming a triangle stretching from Mỹ Tho in the east to Châu Đốc and Hà Tiên in the northwest, down to Cà Mau at the southernmost tip of Vietnam, and including the island of Phú Quốc. The Mekong Delta region of Vietnam displays a variety of physical landscapes, but is dominated by flat flood plains in the south, with a few hills in the north and west. This diversity of terrain was largely the product of tectonic uplift and folding brought about by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates about 50 million years ago. The soil of the lower Delta consists mainly of sediment from the Mekongand its tributaries, deposited over thousands of years as the river changed its course due to the flatness of the low-lying terrain. The present Mekong Delta system has two major distributary channels, both discharging directly into the East Sea.

With its unique physical landscapes and soils, Mekong Delta especially with the Can Tho City is one of the top destination in the World provide the most rice output as well as My Tho and Ben Tre with many types of tropical fruits all years round. Moreover, most of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region are connected with criss-crossing waterways systems of rivers and small canals. Speaking of that, the main transportation used in this region from the Past till now is using boat to travel along the rivers. That is also why Mekong Delta is famous for its floating market too such as Phong Dien Floating Market, Cai Rang Floating Market and Cai Be Floating Market etc...
